Policy: It shall be the policy of Community Care to maintain a safe and healthful environment for its providers, clients, and visitors. Fundamental to Community Care values is the prevention of illness and the promotion of wellness. The United States Surgeon General, in his 1986 report, The Health Effects of Involuntary Smoking concluded that: 1. Involuntary smoking is a cause of disease, including lung cancer in healthy nonsmokers. 2. The simple separation of smokers and nonsmokers within the same airspace may reduce but does not eliminate the exposure of nonsmokers to environmental tobacco smoke. Given these findings, Community Care has been entirely smoke-free since its inception and shall continue to be smoke-free.
