1 . During
the admission process, the service provider or designee, client, and/or
guardian will discuss and assess the conditions under which the client will
receive and send mail.
2. Employees and/or contractees
will not open or censor mail except under the following conditions:
- Mail
is suspected to contain unauthorized, dangerous or illegal materials or
substances.
- Receiving
or sending unopened mail is contraindicated in the service plan.
3. The team will discuss with the client that there
may be a need to censor or open mail they receive or plan to send for reasons
a. and b. listed above. The team will decide the conditions under which the
censoring will occur and the person or persons responsible for censoring the
mail will be identified
4. Discussions and decisions about mail will be
documented in the client's service plan and case record.
5. The team will review these decisions at least every
90 days, or when there is a change in the situation that required the censoring
of mail.
