In residential referrals the Placement Level
Determination Guide will be utilized in conjunction with a thorough record
review, client interview and discussions with the referent, in order to
determine appropriateness of planned placements. In addition, the following
aspects will be considered.
CONTRAINDICATIONS TO
PLACEMENT:
Children will not be screened out solely based on previous history, however
considerations that may serve as contraindications for placement in the program
would be the following:
1. COGNITIVE FUNCTIONING: The level of cognitive
functioning necessary to participate successfully in the program varies based
upon the experience of residential and the current level of adaptive skills of
the child.
2. ACTIVE PSYCHOSIS: Placement is precluded
by an active psychotic condition. An active psychotic disorder is defined as a
DSM IV diagnosed psychosis which has consistently manifested itself for a
period of more than one year, has shown no signs of control or remediation
through psychiatric, psychological, or psycho-pharmacological interventions.
3. Currently Active
Fire-setting:
This is defined as more than two episodes in the previous year of deliberate
fire setting that resulted in destruction of personal property or loss of life.
4. Repetitive Assault with
Dangerous Weapons:
Repetitive assault with dangerous weapons occurs on a daily basis, representing
a clear and present danger to self and others and requires secure seclusion and
restraint.
5. Current Active Substance
Abuse
that requires inpatient detoxification.
