Procedure: Disclosure of any information contained in a home study will be pursuant to Maine Statute Title 22 section 7703. Internal uses of information contained in home study will be limited to the foster care developer, administrative supervisor or the individual performing the study and/or who is responsible for the home and the approving clinical supervisor. At the point of application the applicant(s) is made aware of uses of the information included in this document. Information needing to be disclosed outside the cited statute or what is indicated on the application will need to be authorized by the parent(s) in writing. Information received or contained in the study during the home study process will not be used for team or program discussion. The skills, demographics and family structure of the home can be discussed in a confidential manner with teams and programs for the purposes of placing clients.
Home studies and information used to develop home studies must be kept in a locked compartment or drawer that only the writer has access to. Once completed the home study will stored in a manner that is consistent with the electronic media policy and procedures.
Home studies in the form of documents will be kept in a locked cabinet or drawer. Home studies removed from this cabinet will be signed out indicating the person who sign it out, their title, the use, the date removed and the date returned.
Deviation from this procedure could be viewed as misconduct. In these situations please see the Disciplinary Procedures and the Dismissal for Cause policy (7.ME.20).
